Interview On Giana Sisters, DieselStormers & More

After yesterday’s tease, it’s time to publish our full interview with Black Forest Games. The main topic is of course the impending release of Giana Sisters on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but we also spoke of DieselStormers and got a hint for the next Giana game. Enjoy!

  • I’ve just read that you are bringing competitive multiplayer to Giana Sisters on PC, with an update releasing on 8th December. Will this mode be available in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version? What other differences/additions can players expect from the next gen version?
  • For the release the multiplayer mode is not included. We will wait for the feedback from the PC community first so we can implement most wanted changes. But there are good chances the mp-mode ‘Dream Rush’ will find its way to consoles as already after the first day out the community went crazy about it. The PS4 and XboxOne versions are completely reworked. Some peaks in difficulty have been adjusted, there are reset-points in the bossfights, so you don’t have to start from the beginning of the fight with every death. Last but not least, you are able to directly access each world without having completed the ones before.

 

  • Will both PS4 and XB1 versions of Giana Sisters run at 1080P@60FPS? Did you encounter any problems while aiming for this target?
  • Yes. This provides a very smooth gameplay experience. We had no issues getting there, remember Giana is already running on last gen and Wii U.

 

  • How was your experience with both platforms as developers?
  • For Giana we didn’t even come close to the limits of one or the other. We are very happy that we finally have a new console generation to work with. Last gen really became a pain at the end of their lifecycle.

 

  • As developers, would these new platforms, way more powerful than their predecessors in terms of hardware, be able to allow you to create a better platform game? If so, how?
  • Yes. Just look at the morphing of Giana which took lots if the performance on last gen. More power always gives you more options. Another example are the highend graphics of our new project DieselStormers. With the new gen that is possible and still having no limitations in framerate.

 

  • Are there any plans in motion for a new adventure of Giana Sisters in 2015?
  • We are currently working out the concept for the next Giana game. As some great ideas came up I believe it will be more beginning of 2016 you will be able to lay hands on it. And listen to the new soundtrack! :)

 

  • Finally, I was wondering when you’re planning to port DieselStormers on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
  • Actually we are planning to release the final PC version together with the PS4 and XboxOne versions. And we still have WiiU in mind.
    DieselStormers will see some big changes the next three months. We already talked about them to the inner circle of hardcore DieselStormers fans and they love it.
