Spencer: Bringing More Of The Right Genres To PC Is Clearly In Our Future

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox Division within Microsoft, has once again reiterated that it’s the company’s intention to bring more games “of the right genres” to PC in the future; he confirmed as much in a Q&A with PC Gamer at GDC 2015.

The interviewer asked specifically about Halo: Master Chief Collection, however Spencer replied that for now they’re still focused on fixing issues on the Xbox One version of the game.

It’s a good question. I want—well, through the streaming, obviously people will be able to play on their PCs in their home. And bringing more and more of the right genres to PC, I think is clearly in our future. But we don’t have anything with Master Chief…I think it’s sacrilege to talk about doing anything with Master Chief now other than making the experience better on Xbox One.

Halo: MCC has always seemed a good candidate to be on Windows, but even beyond that, Spencer is not backing down from earlier promises such as the one appeared on Xbox Wire hinting that “Fable Legends is just the first of the major game franchises from Microsoft Studios coming to Windows 10 and we will have more to share in the coming months.” Nothing of the sort was announced eventually at GDC 2015, but the convention is more geared towards developers than gamers; these announcements are probably better suited for E3 or Gamescom reveals.

So which genres could be the right ones? Obviously FPS/TPS and racing games are very big on PC, but strategy games are important as well - a cross-play sequel to Halo Wars coming out on Xbox One and Windows 10 would be something both unexpected and welcome, in my opinion, though of course it would be complicated to balance mouse&keyboard versus controller. What would you personally like to see?
