Valve Adding A Stick To Steam Controller?

The latest Steam beta client update contained a small surprise, as spotted by Facepunch user DevinWatson: a new screenshot, which you can check out below, showing a revised Steam controller with the notable addition of a stick on the lower left side.
It seems like Valve has changed their mind about leaving sticks out of their Steam controller, although personally this looks strange with only one stick. What do you think about this? Should Valve go all out with the trackpads or not?
