Survey: Chinese Gamers Want PS4 More Than XB1

After China’s historic decision to lift the console ban (originally instated 14 years ago), everyone wants to reach into the Chinese market, which is potentially huge. Microsoft announced that it will launch its Xbox One in September, with the help of BesTV, a local TV company; Sony‘s PlayStation 4 should be available in China at a later date, thanks to a partnership with Shanghai Oriental Pearl Culture Development.

A survey published on news portal NetEase tried to gauge the interest of gamers in the respective platforms, and after two weeks of voting, PlayStation 4 was the clear winner with 57,3% of the total votes, while Xbox One trailed far behind at a meager 11,0%.

PS Vita & Vita TV collectively gathered 6,9% of the preferences, while 6,2% of the participants expressed their interest in getting all of them.

Interestingly enough, a whopping 18,7% said that they will keep buying their consoles via importers, in less-than-official fashion; we can only guess this could be because the hardware may be sold at a premium in the official stores.

As a sidenote, it isn’t surprising to learn that Chinese gamers are more familiar with the PlayStation brand, as PlayStation 2 was actually sold in China, while neither Xbox and Xbox 360 were ever available (officially, at least).
