Into the Stars “An Excellent Fit” For PS4 & XB1, Says Dev

The torrent of interesting Kickstarter projects dedicated to videogames has now slowed to a trickle. However, that doesn’t mean there are no current campaigns worth a look - Into the Stars is one such project. Influenced by games such as FTL and Oregon Trail, Into the Stars is being developed by Fugitive Games, an indie studio composed of four men who have previously worked on games like Battlefield 4, MAG, Shadows of the Damned and Medal of Honor.

We reached out to Development Director Ben Jones, who kindly answered a few of our questions. The full interview will be published tomorrow, but here’s a taste on a couple of topics; as PlayStation 4 is listed as the last stretch goal of the campaign, we asked Ben whether the game would need to be fundamentally changed to arrive on console. His answer also sparks a little of hope for Xbox One users:

Given how much we’re pushing UE4 with our massive world and streaming distances, it’s difficult to say until we get our hands on a dev kit. We think the game is an excellent fit for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but we can’t be certain of the work required to move it over until we receive the required hardware.

Jones also explained why the Unreal Engine 4 is vital for the development of Into the Stars.

It has honestly been great. We simply couldn’t pull off what we’re doing with another engine, especially given our lack of engineering resources. UE4 allows us to quickly stand up and prove out systems in Blueprint, which for a team of 4 on a fixed budget is essential.

Check out tomorrow for a lot more on this interesting game.
