Battlefield Hardline Non-Linear But Not Open World

EA’s Battlefield: Hardline, which is already a change of pace from its military forefathers, will also change the way in which the single player campaign is delivered. While most games in the Battlefield series have been completely on the rails, Hardline promises to be more non-linear. As Creative Director Ian Milham told GamingBolt, Hardline will be broken into episodes, which allow the player more creative freedom when it comes to tackling objectives.
Despite this, Milham did confirm that the game will not be open world, and will still be broken down into levels. With a lot of games taking this multi-option approach to level design, it’s possible Hardline will follow the trend of allowing the player to choice between all out aggression and a more stealthy, tactical approach.
Here is Milham’s full quote on the matter:
We’re presenting the single-player as a bunch of episodes. We’re not making a big open-world game, but it’s not as linear as people might be expecting. We want to offer lots of tactical choice within spaces and stuff like that. It’s still is a level game with and story, it’s not a broad open thing. But it’s not just a no choice roller coaster.
