Dead Rising 3 “Nightmare ” adds classic timed events

After its reveal at E3, Dead Rising 3 was criticized for its apparent lack of some trademark features previously seen in the series.

One such feature is that of timed events. In Dead Rising, the player had to make constant choices as time passed by and so did events in the area, meaning that some missions were inevitably left for a second or third playthrough.

Dead Rising 3 seemed to avoid that, and in truth its main mode won’t have this feature. However, speaking with Ausgamers, executive producer Josh Bridge confirmed that players will be able to choose a “Nightmare” mode that will have those classic timed events.

So we actually have two modes. We purposely built a non time-restrictive mode and a completely time-restrictive mode — both following the same storyline. So if you want to, it’ll completely hand your ass to you with Nightmare Mode where the time-limit is going to be pushing you along a schedule — you’re gonna have to meet and finish the missions at a certain time or you’re going to miss them; you’re gonna miss the optional content; you’re going to run out of time — a bomb is gonna likely nuke the whole area.

You can only save in Washrooms and it [just] keeps that classic pressure. But if you wanna have the freedom to explore… we have a bigger world and there’s even more stuff to do in it than any other Dead Rising, and if you want that and to take it all at your own leisure, that’s there for you. You can even hop between both modes if you want — it all goes to the one profile and saves all your experience points.

Options are always good in my opinion; in this case, both purists and those looking for a more casual experience will get what they want out of the game. Dead Rising 3 is a Xbox One exclusive and a launch title, meaning it will release sometime in November.
