Movie news has been rolling in thick and fast at this year’s Comic-Con and one of the more interesting pieces of information that fans have been provided with is that Jeff Wadlow (director of the upcoming Kick-Ass 2) will be providing the script for Fox’s upcoming big screen adaptation of Marvel’s X-Force. Wadlow provided the following statement in reference to the project.
“I’m pretty deep into it,” he tells Cinema Blend. “I have the whole story completely worked out. I’m about 20 pages into my draft. If I wasn’t promoting Kick-Ass, I would probably have a draft [already], but Kick-Ass is going to slow me down just a little.”
“I love the current run of Uncanny X-Force,” he continues. “I love the classic run. Part of my take was addressing this idea that X-Force can be many different things, and that’s what got the studio excited. I think the fans will be excited, too.”
Originally released in the early 1990′s by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, X-Force was a series designed to give readers a grittier alternative to X-Men. The team of heroes was comprised of many fan favourite characters such as Cable, Deadpool, Warpath, Domino and Cannonball but since Wadlow has cited the old and new runs of the comic as influences, it’s safe to assume that mutants from later X-Force rosters such as Wolverine, Psylocke and Colossus might show up. How the X-Force movie will tie into the upcoming The Wolverine and X-men: Days of Future Past remains to be seen but one thing is clear, Fox seems to want to expand and make the most of it’s X-Men rights for the foreseeable future.
