Despite receiving more than fine reviews worldwide (and an enthusiastic one by our Axel) Pacific Rim quite disappoints at US Box Office, debuting with a third place. The movie gained $38.3 million, which is quite below industry projections. Even the not very brilliant Adam Sandler’s sequel Grown Ups 2 did better, debuting in second place with $42.5 million (but reviews are terrible, as Metascore is currently 20/100).
Pacific Rim, with its $200 million budget really needs to shine overseas in the next weeks to cover Legendary Pictures’ investment.
Despicable Me 2 instead, winner of the past week’s Box Office, remained No. 1 grossing another $44.8 million.
