Happy Valley renewed by BBC

The six-part BBC One crime/drama Happy Valley has been renewed today for a second season, which will go for production in 2015, to be broadcast later in the year.

The drama, aired between April 29 and June 3, with Sarah Lancashire, George Costigan and James Norton had a very good average of about 8M viewers weekly, with a season finale rated 92.5, and an imdb of 8.8.

The show will look to hook North American audiences also, very soon, as Happy Valley will premiere in the U.S. and Canada on Netflix on August 20.

The show follows Catherine, a police sergeant who heads up a team of officers in a rural Yorkshire valley. Degradation and little crimes are in order, but everything will go out of control after a staged kidnapping leading to a series of brutal episodes.

Plot details are unknown for Happy Valley season 2, but Lancashire is returning in her role.
