Ryse Comparison - PC VS Xbox One

Just a few hours ago, Crytek and Deep Silver have announced that Ryse, launched alongside Xbox One as an exclusive, will be arriving on PC later this Fall. It seems like our speculation about the likelihood of seeing Ryse on PC was spot on, although certainly the current financial issues of Crytek must have played some part; this version will include all of the DLC content released thus far and support up to 4K resolution.

Carl Jones, Crytek’s Director of Business Development, was quoted as follows in the press release:

We are bringing the Ryse experience to PC, with 4K resolution support. 4K gaming is another leap in graphics quality for PC gamers and Ryse is the perfect showcase for what’s now possible in high-end PC games. We’ve given our team the opportunity to show what CRYENGINE can really achieve, without compromising quality, thanks to the incredible hardware available now to PC gamers. Ryse will be a benchmark PC graphics showcase this year and probably for a long time in future. Our community asked for a Ryse PC version, and we have the means and technology to deliver this title with the highest quality possible.

Recently, Ryse won the SIGGRAPH Award for Best Real-Time Graphics, even though the game could only run at 900P@30FPS on Xbox One; PC users with powerful configurations can look forward to some amazing graphics and several improvements, as the following comparison with two of the first PC screenshots shows.

We have picked the closest images we could find from the same locations, the forest and the palace. As you can see, the PC version clearly sports better definition and higher detail while on Xbox One there’s a heavy blur effect, likely used to hide imperfections. Needless to say, the true graphics potential of Ryse will be unlocked on PC and perhaps even its gameplay could feel better at 60FPS; let’s just hope the port will be well optimized.
