ESO Targeting 1080P@30 On PS4&XB1; More Info Revealed In AMA

A few key members of ZeniMax Online, the development studio created specifically for Elder Scrolls Online, have been engaged today in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session to clarify and reveal information. Just a couple of days ago, it was announced that the monthly fee won’t be necessary anymore, changing the business model from P2P (Pay-to-Play) to B2P (Buy-to-Play); at the same time, the console release date was revealed to be June 9.

We asked what was the target resolution & frame rate for the console versions of ESO, and Lead Designer Nick Konkle answered in the following way:

For your first question, the targets are 30 fps and 1080p resolution for both platforms.

We also inquired on whether the console UI and full controller support will be available on PC and the answer was positive, although it won’t happen until after the console launch:

For your second question, we’re definitely looking to add controller support to the PC game (including the same UI as console), but that won’t be available until after console launch.

Another interesting tidbit of information for console players is that, despite the integrated voice chat, Elder Scrolls Online will also feature text chat and PS4 players can just plug in their keyboard if they want to.

Yes, you have the option of using the text chatbox on console as well. Furthermore, you can plug in a standard USB keyboard into your PS4 and use it to type, if you want.

The chat window collapses by default, but can be pinned to the HUD if you want.

PC players, on the other hand, might be interested to know that ZeniMax is also considering the possibility to add integrated voice chat (even though most players use third party software for that purpose).

It’s definitely something we’re looking to add to the PC/Mac version, but it won’t be available until after console launch.

Finally, a couple of evergreens: player housing and barber shop. ZeniMax is looking to add them both, although there is no ETA on when.

We have a number of things we’d love to add to the game. We are not currently working on housing, but it is on the top of the list of things we want to add.

We’d definitely like to introduce a “barbershop” feature into the game that would allow you to adjust your appearance.

ESO: Tamriel Unlimited will shed the mandatory monthly fee on 17 March for PC & Mac players, while PlayStation 4 & Xbox One players will have to wait June 9 to enter their own versions of Tamriel (servers won’t be shared between different platforms). There will also be a console beta before launch, so stay tuned to know more details about it when they become available.
