PlayStation Now Prices Range Revealed

During the E3 2014 press conference, amongst many other things Sony announced that the highly anticipated Gaikai-based streaming service, PlayStation Now, will be entering Open Beta on July 31 for the United States and Canada, at least on PlayStation 4, while PlayStation 3 and PS Vita are said to be following “shortly after”.

On stage, they also mentioned that “hundreds of titles” will be available for PS Vita during the PlayStation Now beta, such as Tales of Hearts R, Child of Light, Tales From The Borderlands, Minecraft, Dead Space 3, God of War: Ascension, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus, Ultra Street Fighter IV.

As previously stated, Sony means to use PlayStation Now in order to bring gaming to other devices as well, and it looks like some Sony televisions will be able to use PlayStation Now as well - although in that case, you’ll have to pick up a DualShock controller in order to play of course.

Soon afterwards, Sony sent out a press release revealing the prices range for titles appearing on PlayStation Now:

there will be shorter rental periods priced as low as US$2.99, and most titles will be between US$2.99 and US$19.99. As with all content published on PlayStation platforms, publishers and developers will ultimately decide their game price points. Furthermore, SCE plans to offer subscription options in the future.

Still, everything is in flux right now and very much subject to change, so don’t fret yet if you don’t like those prices:

SCE will work with its publishing partners to test various rental periods and prices, depending on how and when players would like to game

Sadly, there was no mention of any timeframe for any other territory, but it’s likely that Europe, Asia and South America won’t be getting it until 2015 - the company already commented in the past that it will take more time overseas since the network structure is a lot more fragmented than in North America.
