State of Decay Xbox One Is “Under Discussion”
Some might say that the zombie theme is getting boring, but the truth is that it’s just an evergreen able to hold its own at all times, especially when there’s a good product behind it. That was the case with State of Decay, the first game of Undead Labs (whose founder is none other than Jeff Strain, previously Lead Programmer on the original release of World of Warcraft and founder of ArenaNet, where he produced Guild Wars).
The game released in June 2013 and was a huge success, both in terms of sales (as we reported at the time) and critics (we awarded the game a solid 80/100 score). After the Xbox 360 release, State of Decay eventually arrived on PC as well, and a couple of DLC expansions have been published so far - Breakdown and Lifeline. However, some users have been asking for an Xbox One version and today, the official Twitter account answered that it’s being discussed; the wink at the end could be interpreted as a sign that odds are looking good.
However, that’s not where the big efforts inside Undead Labs are now focused. Truthfully, the developer had planned to release a MMO game, but in the end they decided to release a single player title first; the MMO project, codenamed Class4, is the natural expansion of the systems tested in State of Decay and in January, they announced to have entered a multi-year partnership with Microsoft to expand the franchise.
Still, if you’re hoping to see the game at E3 2014, we’re sorry to disappoint you - they confirmed that they won’t be there.
Apparently, they prefer to have something solid before the reveal, and it’s a commendable attitude to have. Still, people are clamoring to get the chance to chop zombies (and each other, possibly) in State of Decay, so you can bet that they are feverishly working on the new instalment, and we’ll be here to report everything to your attention.
