The mighty avenger returns to our screens later this year and to give fans a glimpse of what to expect, Marvel today released a second trailer for Thor The Dark World.
The second movie of phase two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Thor (Chris Hemsworth) reaching out to an imprisoned Loki (Tom Hiddleston) for help to face a powerful new threat in the form of Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim (Christopher Eccleston). We can expect the Thor, Loki brotherly dynamic to return in full force but to also feel fresh as Loki takes on a more central role aiding the protagonist.
The film sees the return of astrophysicist Jane Foster played by Natalie Portman, getting her first glimpse of Asgard. It seems a lot of the movie will be taking place away from Earth which is a welcome change as the sweeping vistas of Thor’s home world have been beautifully realised by Marvel’s creative team. Thor’s journey is set to take him across the nine realms of the cosmos so it will be interesting to get a wider depiction of Marvel’s universe before Guardians of the Galaxy hits cinemas.
Also returning are Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Erik Selvig and Idris Elba as Heimdall to name but a few. We anticipate the return of Elba to our screens the most after his stellar performance in Pacific Rim and hope he has an expanded role as the gatekeeper of the Bifröst Bridge this time around.
Thor: The Dark World is directed by Alan Taylor and will be released on October 30th in the UK and November 8th in the US.
