As a result of last month’s THQ IP auction, Wargaming just announced to have acquired the rights for Total Annihilation and Master of Orion, two legendary strategy franchises.
The Russian-based behemoth apparently managed to beat Uber Entertainment for Total Annihilation and Stardock for Master of Orion. As a reminder, Uber Entertainment is currently developing a Kickstarter-funded spiritual successor of Total Annihilation called Planetary Annihilation, with many key members from TA on board like Jon Mavor; however, Wargaming recently bought Gas Powered Games, originally started by Chris Taylor, the creator of Total Annihilation.
In a statement for the press, Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi confirmed that the games will be big triple-A, massive titles with all of Wargaming’s might behind them.
Total Annihilation and Master of Orion are strategy game classics. Although it’s too soon to disclose any details, we are more than willing to give a new lease of life to these games most of us grew up playing. It’s exactly where our major focus will be.
The company is mostly known for World of Tanks, but it’s quickly growing with other games like World of Warplanes (currently in Beta) and World of Warships (in development).
