Helldivers Targeting 1080P@60FPS On PS4, Won’t Be On PS+ In March

A few members of Arrowhead Game Studios have just finished a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session with Helldivers as the core focus. After some delays, the game is finally releasing next week on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita; interestingly, it will have Cross-Buy, Cross-Play, Cross-Save and Cross-Chat functionalities, meaning that buying it one platform will make it available on the others as well (provided that you own them) and you’ll be able to play and chat with your friends regardless of their platform of choice.

We asked if the game will run at 1080P@60FPS on PlayStation 4 and Designer Patrik Lasota confirmed that it’s their target:

It does run at 1080 and we are targeting 60 FPS. I’m not sure what you mean by frame rate locked, but it’s a smooth experience :)

It had also been speculated for Helldivers to be among the PlayStation Plus lineup for March, but Lasota put that rumor to rest:

I know there was a lot of hype for us being the Playstation Plus title for March, but unfortunately that is not the case. I’m sure you will receive an equally awesome game, tough I have a hard time seeing any other game being as awesome as Helldivers :D

Finally, CEO & Game Director Johan Pilestedt explained some of the reasons behind the delay. It turns out that the game has been now expanded, and the difficulty tuned:

There are many reasons for why Helldivers was delayed. I guess the big problem behind the delay was that we envisoned a smaller title, but as everybody grew to love the title, it deserved more love on the development side.
The planned release, way back in 2014, would’ve been a much smaller title without all the juice we’ve got now.
First, the game was so challenging that none of the testers managed to complete the first mission, then it was so easy that nobody felt challenged, and now - we feel that we managed to get the correct difficulty. Meaning: The most challenging is more challenging than we can handle, the least challenging should be able to get a dedicated “n00b” into the game. :)

Helldivers is a “hardcore” top-down shooter with a focus on co-op and a sci-fi setting. As expected from the developers of Magicka, friendly fire is always on; are you ready to kill some bugs?
