Yoshida Explains Third Party Prevalence On PS4

The President of Sony Worldwide StudiosShuhei Yoshida, was recently featured in an interview with Weekly Famitsu.

As you may have noticed, nearly all the games releasing for PlayStation 4 in the upcoming months or so are third party games. Yoshida has clarified on the subject by saying that PlayStation 4 still needs to grow for developers and publishers to start making bold decisions, such as the one to develop solely for PS4.

I think it’s fine to start from there. If the number of PS4 users increases from there and they tell their friends, ‘the games look prettier on the PS4,’ or ‘the loading time’s faster,’ or ‘using the SHARE function is fun’ then the sales for PS4 versions of games will increase and game creators may think ‘let’s focus on developing for the PS4 from here.’

When approached about The Last Guardian, a game that has been in development for almost five years now, Yoshida gave a hopeful answer, but then felt that his answer gave too much hope than reality.

Development couldn’t be better.

… That might be a bit of an exaggeration. We continue to work diligently on the game, so please look forward to it.

We hope Sony starts to talk more about The Last Guardian in the near future, as this game is slowly becoming the new Duke Nukem Forever.

Regardless, what do you think of Sony’s first party output on PlayStation 4 so far? Let us know below.
