Crytek on Ryse PS4: We’re always open to new opportunities

During our interview with Crytek, we couldn’t help ourselves and had to ask about the elephant in room, which is the possibility of Ryse PS4. As we reported a couple of months ago, shortly after Ryse for PC was announced Cevat Yerli (Crytek’s CEO & President) openly stated that they could whatever they wanted with the franchise, since they own the IP. Senior Producer Brian Chambers confirmed in the following statement that they’re open to the idea, although their focus currently lies elsewhere.

We’re always open to new opportunities for our franchises, although for the moment we have our focus firmly on bringing Ryse to PC players, as well as the ongoing development of our other IP’s: Warface, Arena of Fate and Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age.

After the huge restructuring at Crytek, which brought forth the closure of Crytek UK (now a Deep Silver studio, still working on Homefront: The Revolution) and the transformation of Crytek USA from leading team on Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age (which had its developmend transferred to Crytek Frankfurt) into support for USA CryEngine licensees, it’s understandable that they are taking one step at a time. After all, porting the Xbox One version to PC must have been very easy, since both platforms use DirectX; a PlayStation 4 version would certainly require a bit more work.

Still, it’s pretty clear that Ryse PS4 will happen at some point; since there appears to be no legal obligation to Microsoft, it would make no sense for Crytek to skip such a successful platform in terms of sales. Whether it will be a “complete” edition of the first chapter or just the inevitable sequel (on which Yerli commented that they have a strong foundation to build upon with Son of Rome), it remains to be seen.
