LittleBigPlanet 3 Has Lots of Depth

Whereas earlier games in the series had only three layers the player could interact with, LittleBigPlanet 3 will have 16, as I learned during a Gamescom 2014 behind-closed-doors presentation.

This is a huge increase in the amount of the depth the game will feature, allowing creators much more variety in modelling their levels.

Each layer in LittleBigPlanet 3 is a line the players are positioned on, stretching back away from the screen, so 16 different layers gives the 2D platformer a lot more depth.

The news comes with the announcement of added methods of travel between these different layers. These include the ‘Layer Launcher’ which acts similarly to the cannons found in previous LittleBigPlanet games, a slide to travel towards the camera, and a ‘Bendy Rail’ which works like the Sky Rails of Bioshock Infinite.

All of these objects can be customised further so that every user made level will look, feel and play differently.

LittleBigPlanet 3 is due out November 2014 on PlayStation 3 & PlayStation 4.
