Xbox One Sales Double in America
Following the release of the Kinect-free Xbox One, sales in the United States have doubled, according to Microsoft in a press release.
Since the new Xbox One offering launched on June 9, we’ve seen sales of Xbox One more than double in the US, compared to sales in May
Having announced the Kinect-free version in May, Microsoft released the cheaper model in early June, and have apparently seen a huge intake of sales. This is despite the original statement by Phil Harrison during the announcement of the Xbox One that the “Xbox One is Kinect” and that the two components were inseparable.
Developers however had a hard time working with the Kinect, with most Kinect games failing to grab audiences or profits.
The Kinect became quite controversial during the lead up to the release of the Xbox One, as critics were opposed to a camera they had little control over in their living room. Nonetheless, Phil Spencer maintained that Kinect is critical for the long term success of Xbox.
Sales figures of the Kinect-free Xbox One in Europe have yet to be announced.
