Sledgehammer Treating CoD: AW Like New IP

It’s been known for a while that the next Call of Duty, dubbed Advanced Warfare, won’t be development by either Infinity Ward or Treyarch, the two development studios who have been alternating on the job in the past ten years. This time around, Californian studio Sledgehammer Games is behind the wheel, but before you fret remember that they have helped Infinity Ward on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in the past.
Still, there will be some changes to the game, with co-founder Glen Schofield stating in a video interview with Game Informer that they have approached Advanced Warfare as a brand new IP.
We approached this like we would any new IP. I mean, this has been one heck of a creative challenge. I mean, everything is brand new in the game.
Senior development director Senior Aaron Halon added that the game will retain certain Call of Duty pillars such as the blistering 60 FPS, but the developer is putting their spin on the title on things like pacing.
We really looked closely at a lot of the things - the pacing is different. There’s very core things of Call of Duty that won’t change, 60 FPS, the moments and things that are very memorable in the game, but our take on it, our spin on it is different.
Finally, co-founder Michael Condrey teased some upcoming information which will clearly shows Sledgehammer’s mark on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Yeah, we’re really looking forward to sharing more because we think we have some meaningful way to make this franchise feel like it’s got its Sledgehammer mark on it.
The player will have an upgradable exo-suit at disposal which will allow feats such as those seen in games like Titanfall or Crysis. The first video of the game also revealed that Kevin Spacey will play the antagonist, while the main character (called Mitchell) will be voiced by the ubiquitous Troy Baker (Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us).
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is expected to hit on November 4th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, PS3 and PS4.
