Sunset Overdrive: Memes Not The Focus of the Game
James Stevenson from Insomniac Games took it to NeoGAF to explain a bit more of Sunset Overdrive and get us hyped for the closing reveal.
One of the users expressed some skepticism for the upcoming title, also reflecting on their past Resistance games. Aside from talking about them, he brought up the subject of Insomniac not knowing their audience because of their recent claim that they’ll have updates to support social commentary and internet memes.
While social commentary is understandable (albeit it seems a bit misplaced in the game), some were worried about internet memes (which perhaps fit the game better, to be honest).
James explained it:
eh, memes was just a way of saying we could rapidly respond to something that’s still “relevant.”
memes are not the focus of the game or the updates really at all (the social commentary, consumerism etc still plays a big role across the board).
but anyways, more soon.
Internet memes might be found via small easter eggs, then, but they’re definitely not the focus. However, there will be plenty of food for thought considering they’re big on social commentary and consumerism.
He also confirmed that there will be a singleplayer campaign and that the teaser was about Sunset Overdrive’s multiplayer, concluding that if there is one thing this game is not, that is forgettable.
