H1Z1 Not For The Weak, Wouldn’t Exist Without DayZ

After a long tease, Sony Online Entertainment revealed their new MMO that, according to President John Smedley, will make Star Wars Galaxies fans happy. It’s called H1Z1 and it is actually a zombie survival/sandbox MMO, set in “Middle America” 15 years after a zombie apocalypse.
As usual, Smedley is continuing to provide a lot more details on H1Z1 via his Twitter account. Just a few minutes ago, he said that the game won’t be for the weak and chances are if you liked Dark Souls, you might like this one as well.
He then stated that DayZ is an incredible game, and H1Z1 wouldn’t exist without it.
Some more information on the game followed, with Smedley confirming that it will be possible to recover the player character’s loot from the dead body, but it might be already a zombie by then…
…which prompted an user to ask if the newly transformed zombie will wander around, much like in ZombiU, and Smedley answered that they love this idea (so do I, by the way!):
Crafting will be totally different from Everquest Landmark.
The world of H1Z1 already has weather - just imagine how difficult and frightening it will be to roam the woods during a stormy night.
He confirmed that on foot it will be possible to choose between third and first person views, while vehicles will be experienced in third person.
Finally, he explained that the famous SWG reference was mainly related to player made bases/towns and crafting.
H1Z1 will be available in “Early Access” mode in 4-6 weeks according to SoE. You’ll have to pay around $20 to get in, although the game will be F2P at launch. PC version is obviously their priority, but Smedley already teased a PS4 version mentioning that “they’re Sony” after all. Are you excited yet?
