Star Control Getting a Prequel for PC & next-gen
Many of you might be puzzled at the mention of Star Control. This is understandable, since there hasn’t been a new entry in the franchise since 1996, but Stardock acquired the rights for a game last July and today we learned some new details in an interview released to Ars Technica by CEO Brad Wardell.
The target release date will be nailed only during 2015, and the new Star Control will be available for PC (Windows, Mac & Steambox), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
We don’t expect to even consider what a release date is until next year (2015) at which point we’ll have a good idea of how far along we are. We do expect the new one to be home on the PC but also be available on Mac, PS4, Xbox One, Steambox, and any other platform that Nitrous supports
Nitrous is the engine being developed by Oxide Games (we already talked about it here) and it will be used for every new Stardock game, including Galactic Civilizations III. Wardell also confirmed that Star Controll will be a prequel, actually taking a place in another continuity:
We’ll create a new continuity that splits off from the Ur-Quan continuity starting 250,000 years prior where something happened to the Precursors. We plan to start the game around 2112 with aliens first contacting the Earthlings and the formation of Star Control
