Euro Truck Sim 2 Oculus Rift support now in beta

Euro Truck Simulator 2 with Oculus Rift support is now in public beta on Steam, developer SCS Software recently announced.

Oculus support is currently only available for the Windows version of the game, and players are advised to have a pretty powerful computer in order to run the game with the virtual reality headset.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the sequel to the original ETS, a game where players drive across scenic European, visit cities, and deliver truck loads of cargo. Oh, and try not to flip your truck on the way…

The addition of Oculus support to a game like Euro Truck seems like a really cool idea. Unfortunately, I’m still one of the millions of people who has never tried a Rift but I think Euro Truck would be a pretty cool game try with it, and the game’s seriously slick cockpit view would look pretty awesome with a rift.

Personally, I find it extremely exciting to see the Oculus implemented into a game that wasn’t directly designed to be a benchmark for the Rift’s performance and capabilities. I’m sure we’ll see an increase in Oculus implementation since there is now a working 1080p version of the Oculus available, and the legendary John Carmack is now the chief technology officer for the Oculus. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even see a consumer Oculus product become available within the next couple of years.

For now, though, I’ll just sit here and simmer with jealousy.
