Siliconera just posted an interview with Avalanche Studios‘ senior game designer Peter Johansson. He mentioned that Mad Max is still in pre-alpha stage right now, so it’s difficult to say how much of the game is on foot rather than on vehicle, but the Magnus Opus (the name of the vehicle) is of course Max’s primary method of survival.
It makes sense, then, that Avalanche would go at great length in enhancing this aspect of the game - apparently, there are over 50 different vehicles in the game and the player can drive them all. The player’s vehicle can take heavy damage and be forced to stop, temporarily exposing Max to the dangers of the wasteland, but there will be always be a mechanic, Chumbucket, close enough to fix it.
Mad Max is scheduled to release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC in 2014. You can check the first gameplay trailer, released just yesterday, right here.
