Saudi Arabian filmmaker Haifaa Al Mansour’s Wadjda will reach UK distribution on July 19, and for the event a new trailer reached the web, courtesy of deadline. You can watch Wadjda trailer below.
This movie is important because it’s the first-ever feature shot entirely inside the Kingdom and, at the same time, the first Saudi film made by a female director. The movie tells the story of a young girl who wants to challenge the strong Saudi traditions in order to buy a bicycle. The director Al Mansour said that she had found these traditions in her way when directing the movie too, for example when she was relegated to directing by telephone, since the Saudi law does not allow women and men to be seen together outside.
Wadjda debuts in the UK on July 19 via Soda Pictures.
