Taiwan market: Samsung announces Gear VR

Samsung Electronics has announced its virtual reality (VR) device, the Gear VR in Taiwan with the availability to start on January 15, priced at NT$3,490 (US$105).
Although the device only supports Samsung's Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Note 5 series smartphone apps initially, the company will add support for more smartphone models at a later time and will partner with Taiwan's app developers to develop local VR content, according to Samsung Taiwan.
In addition to cooperating with Oculus to develop VR content, Samsung has also launched Samsung Internet applications to support its Gear VR, said the company, adding that the number of apps supporting the Gear VR has exceeded 150, and the number of videos available on the VR device totals over 35,000.
Sales of VR devices in the global consumer market are expected to grow to US$21.8 billion by 2020 from about US$110 million in 2014, according to data released by US-based market research firm Tractica.
