SOE Remaining “PC First”, Says Smedley
John Smedley, President and CEO of Sony Online Entertainment, used his official Twitter account to publicly address the reactions of some users to his recent interview published on Gamasutra, where he mentioned that there is an astounding F2P market on consoles.
Smedley clarified that while he really believes that consoles are a great place for Free-To-Play games, the company’s heritage has always been PC bound and as such, they will never be “console first” or dumb down PC versions of their games in any way.
Sony Online Entertainment published a few games on PlayStation consoles over the years, starting with Everquest Online Adventures (2003) on PlayStation 2. Recently they have published DC Universe Online on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Planetside 2 will finally start its PlayStation 4 beta test on January 20th after many delays (here’s how to sign up) and both Everquest Next and H1Z1 ((which use the same engine of Planetside 2, Forgelight) are believed to be eventually coming to PS4.
Did Smedley assuage your fears (provided that you had any, of course) or are you still worried as a PC SOE customer? Tell us below by leaving a comment.
