H1Z1 & PS2 Getting Weather & Seasons
Today, Sony Online Entertainment‘s CEO John Smedley announced on Twitter that H1Z1 and Planetside 2 are both getting a weather system, which as you can see includes some very nice looking snow. The two games both use SOE’s own Forgelight engine, which inevitably sparks the question about Everquest Next (the other MMO in development with Forgelight) getting this as well or not.
Smedley wouldn’t comment to how much of a performance hit this will be on Planetside 2, which contrarily to H1Z1 doesn’t have NPCs, but a lot of players and vehicles fighting close to each other.
Clearly, this is still being tested; he did say that they have a long term plan to add season, and moreover, elements will matter in H1Z1 - making the freezing cold yet another enemy to fight alongside thirst, hunger, the zombies and other human players.
H1Z1 is shambling (seemed the most relevant word) towards an Early Access release on Steam in the near future, while a PS4 version is basically guaranteed at some later point. Planetside 2 is of course already out on PC and will launch on PlayStation 4 some time in 2014.
