Rockstar Working On A Next-Gen Game
In a conference call with investors, Rockstar‘s parent company Take-Two confirmed that the massively acclaimed development studio is in fact working on a brand new game for next generation hardware to be released by the end of the fiscal year, March 2015.
It was not revealed in the conference call as to whether this will be a game from a previously established IP or a brand new one. This announcement was made in the same conference call that had Take-Two confirm that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V had sold more than 33 million units since it’s release in 2013.
At the moment Take-Two has announced the following list of games, with Turtle Rock Studios‘ Evolve being the most anticipated, and rightfully so after Amanda’s test at PAX.
- NBA2K15
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
- Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth
- Evolve
- WWE 2K15
Clearly, though, Take-Two is betting heavily on Rockstar once again - after all, they haven’t really failed in the last decade or so. As to what this game might be, earlier rumors from research firm Baird Equity suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 could be in the works, along with a PC/next gen version of GTA V; last year, even Take-Two’s own CEO Strauss Zelnick mentioned Red Dead in the context of the company’s “permanent franchises”.
