Bioware Explains The Social Side of Dragon Age Inquisition

Yesterday we learned the release date of Dragon Age Inquisition, currently scheduled for October 7. Today, through a two pages long interview with MMORPG.com, we learn a bit more of a collateral effect of Bioware‘s design - the social side, as they called it. Now, I don’t want to get your hopes up as they’re not referring to multiplayer at all, but it’s still an interesting tidbit: some choices made by the player character can, in fact, lock away some pieces of the story while opening others, likely sparkling discussion between players about their own experiences.

We want players to have different ways to open up the world. Our fans like to compare notes with others. It’s a really social side of the game. By putting some things away as a result of a decision made, every player feels as if the game is their game, not somebody else’s. It’s not about replayability, though there is that. It’s about creating division and discussion. We think it’s delightful.

While a full fledged multiplayer component might have been more appealing, I can see where Creative Director Mike Laidlaw is going with this statement. I’ve always liked games that truly empower players with meaningful choices and consequences, and I hope that Dragon Age Inquisition can be a worthy entry in this particular regard. We won’t have to wait much longer to learn if Bioware is back, though. Will you preorder? Let us know in the comments!
