Dodd: “If I Could Only Have One System, It’d Be PS4″

There seems to be no rest for Microsoft‘s Xbox One. Since its announcement, the successor to the strong Xbox 360 platform has struggled to keep its ground against the main competitor, Sony‘s PlayStation 4, for both critics and public.
This situation isn’t certainly helped by the unending stream of beatings taken by Xbox One versions of multiplatform games. Today, Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will run at 720P@60FPS on Xbox One, while PlayStation 4 fans will be able to enjoy the game at 1080P@60FPS. Here’s a comprehensive list so far:
Assassin’s Creed 4 - X1: 900p@30fps, PS4: 1080p@30fps(after patch)
Battlefield 4 - X1: 720p@60fps, PS4: 900p@60fps
Call of Duty: Ghosts - X1: 720p@60fps, PS4: 1080p@60fps (after patch)
Dying Light - X1: 1080p@60fps, 1080p@60fps
EA Sports UFC - X1: 1080p@30fps, 1080p@30fps
FIFA Soccer 14 - X1: 1080p@60fps, 1080p@60fps
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes - X1: 720p@60fps, Ps4: 1080p@60fps
NBA 2K14 - X1: 1080p@60fps, PS4: 1080p@60fps
Need for Speed Rivals - X1: 1080p@30fps, PS4: 1080p@30fps
Thief - X1: 720p or 900p, PS4: 1080p
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition - X1: 1080p@30fps, 900p@30fps (Cutscenes), PS4: 1080p@60fps
As you can see, Xbox One managed to keep up mostly in sports games, which are notoriously less intensive in terms of performance. Moreover, most exclusive games on Xbox One are also sporting sub-1080P resolution, while the only game in all of the PS4 library to run at less than FullHD resolution is Battlefield 4, perhaps the most advanced game in terms of technology.
Of course, technical details aren’t everything and gameplay is also very important. But this doesn’t mean that the two things are at odds; in fact, they aren’t at all and PlayStation 4 has a very strong lineup for this year. Between indie games, exclusives such as Infamous: Second Son, Driveclub, The Order: 1886 (which will get a new trailer tomorrow) and Uncharted, and the best versions of multiplatform games, PS4 fans have a lot to look forward.
Insider Pete Dodd (known as Famous Mortimer) seems to agree, and in the following tweets, he admitted that if he could only one system, it would be PlayStation 4.
While early sales have been good for Xbox One, the last month has been fairly harsh. Microsoft is betting a lot on Titanfall, but the game isn’t really an Xbox One exclusive, as users can get it on Xbox 360 (and this version is rumored to be almost as good as the next gen one) without having to spend $/€ 499, and hardcore gamers who are looking for the best graphics will just get it on PC. This is likely to translate in Titanfall being a less than exceptional train for hardware sales.
Dodd agrees on this as well: he thinks Xbox One will likely receive a bump from the game just in the release month.
With the imminent launch of PlayStation 4 in Japan, things might be getting even more problematic for Microsoft. Do you think they can still turn the tide, or are they destined to be trailing behind in this generation? Let us know your opinion.
