You Can Get A Longer Sentence By Playing Freedom Wars
Freedom Wars is one of the most anticipated PS Vita titles. In development at SCE Japan Studio, the game easily made our list of the best upcoming handheld games.
During the Taipei Game Show, Siliconera was able to have a talk with Producer Junichi Yoshizawa and Designer Toshiyuki Yasui. An interesting tidbit is worth highlighting - the whole premise of Freedom Wars is that you have to fight monsters to reduce your life sentence (bestowed upon you on birth), but you can actually increase that life sentence as well if you’re not careful.
Yoshizawa: Okay, so what’s happening now is that everybody is extremely focused on the game’s premise of having the player reduce his prison sentence down to zero. But here’s the thing: the sentence can be added to. [the room erupts with laughter]
So if you get careless in the game, you might just end up getting a ridiculous number of years added to your sentence! That’s something we think players will look forward to finding out [laughs].
Well, that’s not very reassuring, is it? Still, I like when games provide challenges and a proper risk/reward mechanics, with penalties if you play carelessly. Freedom Wars has been just confirmed to have a simultaneous Summer release in Japan and the rest of Asia; however, don’t worry, as many videos have showed already that a basic English translation is in place. A Western release shouldn’t be too far ahead.
