Dean Hall: Rust is a great game, no DayZ clone
The proliferation of multiplayer sandbox/survival games with zombies (or similar) is almost out of control lately. After the early success of DayZ as an Arma II mod, many developers have been trying to replicate it and perhaps improve upon it, although there is the concrete risk of creating a DayZ clone (WarZ is still fresh on mind); this happens while DayZ itself is striving to improve, now as a standalone title.
One of the most popular games in this lot is certainly Rust, created by Garry Newman - you may know him as the maker of Garry’s Mod. Rust sold 150K (virtual) copies in about two weeks, while DayZ is already a million seller after four weeks ; one might think there could be some rivalry between the two, but Dean Hall just tweeted his appreciation for Rust, clarifying that he never considered it to be a DayZ clone:
Given the aforementioned early sales numbers, chances are someone of you is already playing both games on Steam Early Access. Which one do you prefer, then? Tell us below!
