Alien Isolation Devs Thought of Coop,Decided Against

The Creative Assembly unveiled in grand fashion their Alien Isolation project, and many details are still pouring out of multiple sources. RPS had a long interview with Creative Lead Al Hope and Lead UI Art & Design Jon McKellan; interestingly, they confirmed to have considered a cooperative mode for Alien Isolation, although ultimately they have decided against it.

Hope: It’s very much about a single player experience. We did think about it, it’s not like we never considered it – and we had some pretty neat ideas around that. But for us the focus always was that single player experience. And I think because you have this dynamic alien and it’s about the player’s choices while they play it, it does mean that you can go back and try different stuff out. So I think there is a lot of scope to have players go back and do things differently.

McKellan: I think that as soon as you up the amount of humans then you’re no longer as ‘outnumbered’. You know, if you had two or three humans facing up against one alien it’s a completely different experience where you’re working together to overcome it rather than just trying to survive. It just felt better to leave it single player.

There’s some truth to that, I won’t deny it - still, personally I’m not a huge fan of horror games and as such, I tend to avoid them unless I can share the scare with a friend. Of course, I’m sure that the horror purists will be really glad of this.

Alien Isolation will make the fortune of laundries home and abroad this Fall, on PC, PS3, X360, PS4 and XB1.
