First Official SteamOS Box Announced
During CES 2014, iBuyPower, an online retailer that sells Laptops and custom Gaming PCs, announced that they will be the first to produce Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine.
Courtesy of SteamFirst, the specs of said Machine have been leaked:
“They plan on making a Steam machine around the size of a PS4, and slightly smaller than an Xbox One, that will include a multi-core AMD Cpu, 500GB hard drive (we are not sure if this will be SSD but doubtful), WiFi, Bluetooth, and an AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card.”
The fact that specs are being declared to the public is certainly a promising sign for the future of Steam’s Linux-based gaming-focused machine and operating system, even if SteamOS is still a long way from being available commercially.
On a side note, someone has created a modified SteamOS installer that aims to make SteamOS more accessible and “less modern”. Dubbed “Ye Olde Steam Ose”, the modifier features the ability to resize NTFS TVs and Monitors, network firmware, and a host of other minor fixes.
