PS4 and X1 attacked by hackers 34K/DAY,says Kaspersky

The world famous computer security company, Kaspersky Lab, has been monitoring the hacking attempts to newly released platforms PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and the data is simply stunning: it appears that they get targeted 34K times each day. Overall, Kaspersky acknowledges about 4.6 different malware programs which are realized and directed towards gaming systems. David Emm, Senior Security Researcher at Kaspersky Lab, released the following statement:

We’ve just seen two of the biggest console launches ever, with the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. That means there will be more gamers for criminals to target, especially as the Sony and Microsoft machines increasingly use the Internet for a fuller gaming experience. And don’t forget the PC, still the most popular gaming platform and cyber crooks’ favorite target

Of all the gaming focused attacks in Europe, Spain got the lion’s share with a whopping 138,786 attacks; Poland came in second with 127,509, followed by Italy, which occupied the third place with 75,080.

Most of all, these hackers try to gather username and passwords out of the login systems, which are then sold in an underground marketplace. After the PlayStation Network outage , clearly gamers are more wary of this threat, although the safeguard is still totally relying on the platform owners - Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, since no antivirus software can be installed by users on gaming machines. Let’s hope they continue to take this threat with the utmost gravity.
