Christofer Sundberg, founder and creative director of Avalanche Studios, has expressed his opinion on Twitter that Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield 4 signal the end of an era, saying he doesn’t believe the Call of Duty franchise will retain its market dominance due its lukewarm reception, while Battlefield will live on as an MP-only game.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is sitting at a disappointing 75 average on Metacritic compared to Battlefield 4‘s 85, the first time in recent history where these two franchises are separated by such a big difference in review scores. Judging from recent performances, it’s easy to see where Sundberg is coming from, however Call of Duty shouldn’t be written off yet.
We still need to wait until the final sales figures are in for both titles before drawing further conclusions, but it’s clear that next year the competition between these two historic multiplayer-FPS franchises will be a lot fiercer and closer. Do you agree with Sundberg?
