Later this week expect an important update to Forge, Dark Vale Games’ MMO Action-RPG, as the game will be going free-to-play. The main reason is to obviously attract more potential players as Forge‘s servers are a ghost-town more often than not.
Dark Vale reassures fans that this move does not mean the game will be pay-to-win but that paying players will be able to purchase cosmetics and XP boosts which don’t give them any gameplay advantage over non-paying players.
I’ve never tried Forge myself, but from what I hear it’s actually a really good multiplayer game and it can be a lot of fun with a larger player-base. Hopefully this shift into the F2P realm will help more players try out Forge and hopefully establish a more loyal fan base.
People who already bought Forge will receive an in-game starter pack at $19 value which will include skin sets and temporary XP-boosts to thank them for their early support.
