It turns out the Dark Knight won’t be flying solo in the upcoming prequel title Batman Arkham Origins.
Splash Damage announced it will create a multiplayer section for Origins, a first-time feature for the series. The multiplayer will also be monitored by the Warner Bros. Montreal, who is developing the single-player story.
A newly released trailer for the games’ multiplayer sheds light on how it will play.
The Batman Arkham Origins mutliplayer will have three teams consisting of eight total players. One team controls Bane and two of his henchmen while the other team plays as the Joker with two members of his gang. The third team has one person playing as Batman while the other plays as the boy wonder, Robin.
The henchmen will play like an over-the-shoulder third-person camera similar to Gears of War. Bane, however, did not use any weapons except his fists. Joker seemed to play similarly to his henchmen, but will likely have a few tricks up his sleeve. Perhaps players will have to earn a set number of points to play as the Joker or Bane.
On another note, according to Analog Addiction, Origins on the Wii U will not contain the multiplayer component. Warner Bros. said it’s because the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC have a large audiences whereas the Wii U does not.
