Some of the most known Ouya developers have spoken to about their current sales on the android-powered console as well as their reactions to the console’s launch which was met with mixed reviews. TowerFall is easily the best and most notable Ouya exclusive, and it comes to no surprise that the TowerFall dev, Matt Thorson, has the most optimistic view of the console.
We’ve made about 2,000 sales so far at $15 each, so sales have been surprisingly high for a new game on a new console.
TowerFall will also be making the jump to PC, thanks to its successful Ouya launch, in the near future.
It does seen, however, that Thorsons’ story is the only success story from the first wave of Ouya games.
Other developers haven’t been so fond of the initial sales figures of their Ouya titles. Organ Trail developer Ryan Wiemeyer, for example, has expressed his disappointment in the poor sales of the game on the console, and further declared that the revenue was not enough to justify the man hours put into porting the game to Ouya.
The majority of developers only reported profits below the $1,000 level, with only a handful of games crossing that line. It might be too early to call the Ouya a failure, but it’s no secret that this wasn’t the reception everyone was expecting. Developers criticize the console’s controller and poor discoverability of games on the systems, but even if these issues would be solved, the situation won’t be much better for devs.
