In a press release, Unity Technologies announced that the community of Unity engine users is now 2 million strong. The first million required seven years, but the second one was reached in just 15 months, testifying the great success Unity is currently enjoying in the game development community.
Unity CEO and co-founder David Helgason added:
We are proud of this new milestone that we have reached for what it means to the vision to democratise the game industry.
In 2005 we started out with a few hundred users and the goal of making game development accessible to everyone across an increasing array of platforms and devices. We continue to dream big and innovate for our developers
The number of games using Unity increases every day. The engine supports basically every major platform, including next gen consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On a side note, this year’s Unite conference will take place in Vancouver, Canada, from 28 to 30 August; the opening keynote will be provided by Richard Garriott himself, who’s currently working on Shroud of Avatar, also using Unity.
