Takashi Miike in the USA!

It’s official. As recently happened to his other colleagues in the East, it’s time for the prolific director Takashi Miike to debut on American soil. After Kim Jee-Woon (the action The Last Stand) and Park Chan-Wook (the drama Stoker), now it’s the turn of the Japanese director, author of movies like Ichi the Killer, Audition and Sukiyaki Western Django.

His new movie is titled The Outsider, based on an idea by John Linson and screenplay by Andrew Baldwin (who’s pretty much in the blacklist of Hollywood). The film will be set in Japan at the end of World War II where a former American prisoner joins the Yakuza.

John Linson will produce the film with his father Art Linson, along with Joel Silver with his Silver Pictures. Little is known about the project, except that filming will begin in early 2014 and the lead actor will be Tom Hardy (recently seen in the role of Bane in DC cinecomic The Dark Knight Rises).
