Zynga Shuts Down OMGPOP

Zynga, the game company behind facebook hits like Farmville and Texas Hold ‘em, recently had a massive sweep resulting in a large number of lay-offs including the OMGPOP website. Just last year it acquired OMGPOP for $200m, the site which brought us “Draw Something”, at the peak of its’ success.

Zynga pushed itself on everything it owned, yet this did nothing to boost their popularity. OMGPOP failed to continue rising in success (whilst not necessarily plummeting in success either) and so it failed to show why it was worth such a substantial amount of money. Today we found on twitter that people had announced they’d been laid off from the site, with an apparent lack of notice. Although most of the studio has been laid off, a minor amount will be continuing in other areas of Zynga.
