Prey 2 transferring to Arkane Studios (Rumor)

Prey 2 is on the move again.

Following earlier rumors the troubled open-world FPS game could even be cancelled, today sources at Kotaku and Alien Noire (the Prey 2 fan site) are suggesting that Prey 2‘s development is shifting over to Arkane Studios (Dishonored).

Debuting at E3′s 2011 conference, Prey 2 has been plagued with uncertainty since splitting with previous developer Human Head Studios, in late 2011.  Bethesda, publisher behind the title, has struggled to find a developer.  Sources indicate they’ve been shopping around to both Obsidian (South Park: The Stick of Truth) and Rebellion (Rogue Warrior), before striking a deal with Arkane Studios.

Arkane Studios’ Austin location is suggested, as the France studio is known to be working on the sequel to Dishonored.

The source claims some developers at Arkane aren’t happy about working on Prey2.  However, the studio is telling them to treat it like a new System Shock, scrapping much of the original development and remaking from scratch.  The game will be re-tooled and aims for a release in 2016.

Fans of Prey question whether the new title will be able to maintain its appeal, if the game is to be remade entirely.  Will the final product bear any resemblance to the work done by developers at Human Head Studios?

None of this information has been confirmed by Bethesda or Arkane Studios, so consider it rumor.  However, we’ll stay on this topic and update if more news becomes available.
