Xbox One is the name of the new Microsoft console

After much speculation in the last few weeks, the breaking news from today’s reveal event tells us that Xbox One is the name of the new Microsoft console, which will launch worldwide later this year.

Some of the technical specifications of the system include:

  • USB3.0
  • Bluray Drive
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 8 core CPU

The console has been described as very silent. The Kinect has been overhauled as expected, but many gamers will be happy to know that the d-pad seems greatly improved as well. Here some specifications for both:

Kinect

  • 1080P HD RGB Camera
  • 30 FPS Color
  • TIme of Flight Technology (TOF), measuring the time far better at 2GB per second
  • Microphone Arrays
  • Can now view depth, orientation, balance and muscle use far better

Joypad

  • Integrated Battery Compartment
  • Impulse Triggers
  • Wi-Fi Direct Radio Stack
  • Precision Directional Pad

Xbox Live should benefit from many more servers, according to Microsoft, and achievements will now be dynamic.

The rumoured partnership with EA Sports has been then confirmed, with Madden, Fifa, UFC and NBA Live 2014 (making a comeback after years of absence) mentioned to be available for the new platform in the next 12 months.

EA Sports Ignite was also announced, it will increase integration from the live sports to the actual videogames. Xbox One will have exclusive content for the Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 14.

Forza Motorsport 5 was showed in a first trailer and we can confirm that it will be available at launch; then it was time for a trailer of Quantum Break from Remedy, another exclusive.

Overall, it was announced that Xbox One will feature 15 exclusives in the first year, 8 of which are supposedly brand new franchises.

The finale was reserved to Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, which will have DLC exclusively available first on Xbox One.

The game will feature a brand new engine, boasted with pride by the developement team. However, whilst clearly enhanced in many ways, it failed to impress even when compared to released games like Crysis 3 or Metro Last Light in their PC versions.

Honestly, I was expecting more from this reveal. Or I should rather say that I was HOPING for more, but after all in these last few years Microsoft has been focused mostly on other things than actual games.
