Skyrim voted “Best game of the generation” on Amazon

Even though The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released almost two years ago, it’s still winning prizes. Bethesda‘s last epic masterpiece was just voted “Best game of the generation” on a poll set up on the Amazon. UK website. The voting went on from August 1st to August 4th, and the rivalries were settled using a tournament system.

Skyrim managed to beat semifinalists The Last of Us, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Red Dead Redemption to win. What’s your take?

I have no problem with that. Great game experience.

I loved Skyrim, but personally I liked Fallout 3 more, only because I’m not a huge fan of “old fantasy.” I like the Fallout 3 universe more, the gritty apocalyptic setting, so that would be my choice of best game. I really, really don’t think Red Dead and Uncharted 2 were better games than Fallout 3. Not saying those games are bad, not at all.

I think it didn’t win because shooter styled post-apocalyptic games are a dime-a-dozen. Sure there are tons of sword and spell games but Elder Scrolls definitely separates its self in the biggest way including format and concept. Not that the Fallout series isn’t unique and fun unto itself, but the theme and format aren’t as much of a “fresh breath” to the genre.

I still play Skyrim from time to time, The last of Us is a great experience sure, and one of the best games this generation. But it does not have the longevity and the value that Skyrim has. I got over 800 hours in Skyrim over multiple characters and I still find new stuff to do, that is just amazing to me. While Oblivion was to me a big disappointment, Skyrim fixed mostly all the issues I had with it and improved on lots of other stuff. And with mods you can make Skyrim live for a long time still.

So this is well deserved imo, as Skyrim to me is not only this generation best game, it has dethroned an old classic that is Gothic 2 as favorite game of all time.

Are you KIDDING ME!? You put The Walking Dead gains Fallout 3!? That’s fucking mental! You can’t do that because those game are Totally different from each other! I’m really pissed off because of this bullshit bracket.

The games may be totally different from each other, but the people who voted are also totally different from each other. Polls like these are accurate - for the masses. You shouldn’t be getting pissed off just because you’re in the minority.

If it werent for the Modding capability of Skyrim I don’t think it would deserve to win. Though its vanilla form definitely still makes it a competitor.

Skyrim is definitely one of the greatest games of this generation, but I don’t think it deserves to be THE greatest game of the generation. It got the award because of the playtime you can pull out of it, but that’s pretty much all it has to offer for me. Games like the Last of Us, Uncharted 2 and 3, Red Dead Redemption, Portal, Mass Effect and even Arkham City are all done in a better way. More detail went into the stories and significant character development, rather than sacrificing that for a random quest-popping machine.

      just no.

Good argument man, I was confused before, but I see clearly now, the things you said really made a valid point and I can’t help but to take back my own words. Thank you, sir! :)
