Microsoft: Gaming is a Mainstream Thing, Xbox home of Call of Duty

In a brief interview with GamerHubTV, Mike Nichols (Corporate Vice President at Microsoft) has talked about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Xbox, expressing some interesting opinions.

Microsoft opened their E3 show with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare presentation and proudly announced that once again, COD: AW’s DLC content will be landing on Xbox platforms first, something that’s going on ever since 2010 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The Call of Duty series and Xbox platforms were always going hand in hand, with most of Xbox gamers playing all the yearly iterations of Call of Duty. That’s something Microsoft is very aware of.

Xbox has always been the home of Call of Duty franchise and we think that the trailer for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is fantastic. That got a lot of good response from the crowd as well and consistent with prior years, DLC will be availible first for Xbox customers. We’re really excited to be able to do that again with the next-generation of Call of Duty coming out this holiday.

Another selling point for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is Kevin Spacey voicing one of the ingame characters. Mike Nichols explaination of why such a big name would star in a video game is expected:

Well, I think it says that video gaming is incredibly mainstream thing. It’s amazingly popular, gaming is the fastest growing and the largest category of entertainment and when you have sort of bridging between Hollywood stars along with gameplay is an exciting thing. It’s really a celebration of gaming and entertainment and how those things can merge.

Even the very name of Microsoft’s next-generation console, Xbox One, seems fitting in this regard. Gaming has become as mainstream as any other entertainment industry, such as music or filmography, and Microsoft tried to create an All in One package.
